Gateway Technical College Adopts TracDat to Support Enterprise-Wide Assessment Management
The Nation's First Publicly Supported Technical Institution Focuses
on Continuous Improvement Initiatives
PITTSBURGH, PA, March 2, 2006
– Nuventive, a leading provider of individual and institutional
assessment solutions, today announced Gateway Technical College
will implement Nuventive TracDat, an enterprise assessment management
solution to manage the process of institutional assessment and
continuous improvement, throughout the entire institution. Gateway
is one of 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System.
The College provides lifelong education and hands-on skill training
for over 65 careers.
With multiple campuses located in southeastern
Wisconsin, Gateway Technical College, the nation's first
public technical college, provides state of the art technical
programs as well as other initiatives and partnerships that
focus on ensuring the economic growth and viability of the region
as well as the careers and personal success of its students.
The institution-wide implementation of TracDat will extend comprehensive
Web-based planning and assessment, establishing consistent processes
for managing program improvement across students, faculty, and
administration.
In 2004, the college began looking for a database
product to help organize program assessment data and provide
clear, concise reports that showed the on-going progress achieved.
The existing internal process was paper-based and reporting
was a difficult manual process. The collection of data from
multiple campuses was challenging, and even when collected,
the assessment information was difficult to organize and compare
to past cycles. Additionally, the college had just finished
an assessment-focused accreditation visit and concluded that
they needed to do a better job of linking improvements to assessment
data.
Gateway Technical College selected Nuventive
TracDat after extensive competitive research and learning that
the software was being used successfully at Blackhawk Technical
College, a nearby technical institution that was tackling similar
issues. In 2004 the college initiated a pilot implementation
of TracDat in the nursing, graphics, human services, mathematics
and microcomputer specialist programs. The results of the pilot
clearly indicated that TracDat simplified and streamlined the
process for faculty, provided them with a forum for the exchange
of ideas, promoted district-wide collaboration, and was easy
to use. The solution also proved valuable as a tool for cross
disciplinary assessment—enabling a valuable exchange of
information between departments.
TracDat will facilitate Gateway Technical
College's realization of both its effort to align programs
with the emerging occupations in their region and in the global
economy, as well as its strategic goal to maximize individual
student achievement.
"TracDat is
helping us transform the student assessment process from a cumbersome
obligation for faculty to an easy, accessible and exciting way
to continuously improve teaching and learning", said John
Thibodeau, Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness.
Student Assessment Coordinator Meg Hunter
added, "TracDat is the next logical step in the assessment
process. It allows faculty to access their web-based assessment
data anywhere anytime. The use of TracDat will help facilitate
interdisciplinary collaboration because both program and general
education faculty will have access to each others data. In addition,
it will give faculty across the district the opportunity to
share responsibility for the assessment process."
"Institutions with a long history
of providing technical, general and continuing education like
Gateway Technical College play a critical role in the success
of both the region and its people", said Dr. David Raney,
Nuventive CEO. "We are very pleased with their decision
to extend the benefits of TracDat to the entire institution
and are proud to play a key role in supporting Gateway's
continuous improvement initiatives."
